only needed a 5/16 diameter drill bit to get the job done. I bought this whole set for what it would have cost me for one size at my local hardware store. To be honest, I can't rate the durability and fit yet. I drill a 1/2" x 8" pilot hole in pine logs for long studs with a cordless drill to a depth of about 9 inches works fine.
