Constant ticking. There's also a different kind of ticking when it goes into cleaning mode that sounds like an old tape printer. The ionizing tick is designed that way, but I'm not sure if another constant tick is normal. It's subtle, but incredibly annoying. Not what I expected from a $400 machine that claims to be quiet. I live in NV (which is very dry) and after running the machine for 24 hours humidifying and purifying I can't say the air in my room is cleaner or more humid than before. In fact, my sinuses seem to be more irritated than before. I also had a headache. The ionizing feature produced a noticeable smell of ozone which I believe caused headaches and sinus irritation. I don't think it's safe or healthy. I'm returning this and buying an ozone free air purifier and separate steam humidifier instead.
