Just caught myself looking at a Freud Shaker that will replace my trusty Yonico. Fairing cuts. Maybe time to replace? Then dawned I've had really good results with my current set and why switch now as this is my latest closet makeover.I used my old set to do a lot of things for our Florida apartment including new kitchen cabinets, a kitchen island, floor to ceiling dressers , a large vanity table and a large double bed with lots of doors and drawers. These puppies ran hard. If I need to replace them to complete this project I will be getting another set of Yonicos. Let me share a few things I got out of Learning from using this kit: 1. Buy or build a canopy slide Bad connections and gaps will result in normal ones rwise from poor retention of the cap sections. 2. Necessary adjustments. Getting your joints aligned properly can be tiring, but it's worth it. The problem is to reduce the grinding required. I've just decided to get a router lift and it makes setup so much easier. 3. Get your channels and speeds right, or at least close. This improves surface quality and tool life.4. Think of a powerful setup. A good table, a good fence, a good router and good springs.5. The plate fits. After reading some of these reviews I see that this is a common complaint. What I do is match the panel to the slot, not the slot to the panel. For the shaker panels I use 3/8 MDF (I know it's hard to find) and dowel around the perimeter to the correct thickness. This keeps the panel flush with the back of the frame and much more rigid than 1/4" panel. Again, fleshy is better. 6. Glue and clamp. Don't pinch. I made several banana-shaped drawer fronts before figuring it out. Regular bar clamps usually apply slightly non-standard pressure and can easily form the aforementioned banana if overtightened.Parallel jaw clamps help a lot, but caution usually suffices.Or just tighten and paint yellow.Underm Bottom line I have some Yonico tips and have always been happy with that, if I did more woodwork I might go with Freud or someone else but I don't and will probably stick with Jonico.
