At first I just wanted to play around with the vacuum pump. I don't know anything at all, so I gave a mostly average rating. I am sure this device will work as intended. It is well made, looks solid and looks a lot like a high quality aquarium pump. I already had a small pump from a medical device powered by a small AC motor that creates a much stronger vacuum, so I'm not currently using it, but who knows about the future because I just like to experiment and play with ideas. If you want to create a deep vacuum, just invest in an HVAC vacuum pump, not this one. There is another lab pump I picked up here that produces a vacuum of -28.5 Hg. This is a double diaphragm pump. I suspect if you need a low level of vacuum for an extended period of time then this is the device for you. I have several similar aquarium pumps that have been running 24/7 for the past 5 years. UPDATE I bought a more powerful pump and vacuum chamber. Now I can give a quantitative report. This pump can only produce -7 inches of vacuum, which might be enough for your needs, I don't know. My new double diaphragm pump can draw less than -28 and better suits my needs.
