I am so happy I decided to invest in one of these and would not recommend it to any reptile owner! This eliminates all guesswork about the amount of UVB your reptile is getting and may even save its life! Without a meter we can't really make sure they're getting the right amount of UV. Now I know exactly how much UV it's getting and I can test the bulbs to measure the wattage so I know when to replace them rather than just relying on the manufacturer's suggestion. The current T8 UVB lamp is less than a month old and emits almost no UVB. If only I had followed the usual schedule for replacement, my poor bearded rescued husband who had MBD as a child could suffer. Needless to say, I got a new light right away, but this time I got a new light. The Arcadia 12% T5 (which is significantly more powerful) came with a larger case, which I also received and I used my new photometer to measure and check the UV at various points in his tank by looking at the light at various fixed positions. to help me place it correctly so it has a healthy gradient. I know it's expensive but it's something you should definitely consider! This is a one-time investment that you will use again and again to ensure your reptile gets what it needs. Also impressive is that every device is hand-tested, calibrated, and comes with a certificate showing when it was tested and certified.
