Not the easiest flip phone to use, but in minimal packaging. Supplied with 9V backup battery. I was a little apprehensive when I plugged it in, the red light came on and I was like, 'Oh that's weird. Rest assured, the "red" light is the operational light, which will also flash (and chirp) once a minute when your 9 volt battery is low. A solid red light is the usual "I'm on and doing my job" status indicator. When your detector goes off an alarm, it will flash red constantly and make CRAZY beeps! can't be ignored unless you're deaf, but then you'll get a visual cue. I confess this is all in the instructions but I didn't read the instructions until the red light alerted me.
