THEY WILL KILL.

I became a little suspicious after using the unit for a week without warning (detected as rotten egg smell and burning smell) in my Ford Explorer (with known carbon monoxide leaks). Out of curiosity, I decided to "test" the device by connecting it to an extension cord and taking it outside so it could be placed next to my car's exhaust pipe. Credit here with the block directly opposite the end of the tailpipe (vehicle is obviously running), he didn't warn. general. There will never be any…

and beeps like CRAZY! not to be ignored

Not the easiest flip phone to use, but in minimal packaging. Supplied with 9V backup battery. I was a little apprehensive when I plugged it in, the red light came on and I was like, 'Oh that's weird. Red is an alarming color. Do I have carbon monoxide in my house?” but no. Rest assured, the "red" light is the operational light, which will also flash (and chirp) once a minute when your 9 volt battery is low. A solid red light is the usual "I'm on and doing my job" status indicator. When your…

Not quite sure about fire safety

I bought 2 of these to install in our boat cabin as we run the alternator for the air conditioning. For fun I plugged them into 2 power strips on opposite sides of my garage and ran my portable generator by the door. nothing closed both garage doors a little wait wait . Nothing. Both doors closed and waited a few minutes - finally one walked out. (Yes I did a print to check and all went well.) I dropped one, started the generator and literally placed the detectors in the exhaust path. Nothing…

Saved our lives today

So this detector 'might' have saved our lives today if we hadn't left the house when we did (thanks to mom's instincts). Lightning struck our new home this morning and electricity flowed through our electrical system and from the outlet behind the stove. A spark started a fire that destroyed our kitchen, but thanks to thunder we woke up anyway to check on the kids, immediately smelled the fire and got out a few minutes after the impact. The fire chief said that when they got there, only that…

Small form factor, reasonable price and security

How do you test a carbon monoxide detector? I don't have a carbon monoxide supply, so I can't verify the basic operation of the unit. What I can say is that this alarm is good as far as I can tell. The small form factor means it's fairly discreet in your home; You'll notice it, but after a while it fades into the background. It doesn't protrude too much from the wall so you won't bump into it or trip over it. Using it is as easy as it gets, just plug it in. After doing the first test to make…

Bought four of these CO2 alarms and placed them around the house. We have a propane stove, a gas stove and a gas water heater. The water heater is in a closet in my daughter's bedroom (home). The alarm worked for about two months without any problems. Then suddenly, one night at around 1:30 am, the alarm clock in my daughter's room went off. Per instructions on back of alarm 4 beeps = CO2 present. Turn off the alarm and set it to another one in the kitchen. About an hour later, the alarm clock…
