Review on Dell U2518D LED Lit Monitor - Enhanced Compatibility for 2560X1440P by Robert Merito

Ideal for heavy text work

I bought this monitor a year before writing this review. I use it for hours every day for my work. I don't play games or watch videos on my computer, so my review is for people who do a lot of heavy text work - coding, reviewing financial reports, spreadsheets, etc. Dell U3417 (crooked - needs plucking out my cold dead hands, he is so good). This is a side monitor in my multi-monitor setup. In this configuration it works great. Lots of small text for my purposes, works great. The mostly white display (black text on white pages, spreadsheets, etc.) works great. The pixels are so small I can barely see them (and I'm VERY picky/picky). The anti-reflective coating adds very minimal gray stains to the point of being almost invisible. I've seen many displays (desktop and portable) where gray patches on a white background are distracting and unattractive. On this monitor there is the smallest trifle, but quite acceptable even for me. The viewing angle is excellent. I can look at this monitor from different angles and the picture is bright and good. I have it on a VESA monitor arm. It was very easy to do. The included stand is also very good, one of the best I've seen with height and tilt adjustment. The controls are fine; They're a set of very small buttons on the right side of the bottom edge of the monitor. They're not the best, but hopefully you won't be using them often. As with all monitors, the inputs are difficult to access once the monitor is installed. I don't understand why monitor manufacturers can't put clear, large, unique labels on the back of the monitor instead of being stamped into the metal inside the porthole where you have to squirm and aim your flashlight at the panel. metal to find out which port it is (e.g. if there are multiple DisplayPort ports). Well, like monitor control, we hope this takes up as little of your overall monitor usage as possible. I haven't had any problems with this monitor for over a year. No dead pixels, no quality issues, nothing else. For the price I think it's a good enough monitor so I'll buy a second one to build my multi-monitor system.
