I purchased the small size 250 liter, collapsable water bottle recently. As expected, it had a weird smell. I was able to remedy the smell by doing the following: Remove the lid so the bottle is open and exposed. Rinse a couple of times with clean water and shake it empty. Then I sprayed a combo of hydrogen peroxide, clean water and a drop of essential oil of lemon. Rinsed it well with this blend, poured out the liquid, and allowed it to dry by placing it on something that would allow the inside to dry well and air out any "off taste". It did work. I believe that any product manufactured in China (which this product is) before it comes into the US gets sprayed with chemicals for any "contaminants" whatever that might be (certainly a whole other world after P-demic) so, that said, I was pleased to correct this issue. I actually gave this to a friend who had come to visit from Sweden so she could have a light weight water bottle. It was funny cuz she couldn't figure out she needed to bite the mouth piece to release the water and hold it upward to create pressure so she could drink from the bottle. She loves it! Now I need to replace it so I can have one for myself. I just purchased the 250 and 500 liter sizes. I will be sure to share my review , and keeping my fingers crossed I can resolve the same issue if needed. (I expect it will be the same problem) I think the design is awesome. Sad that all these weird odors have to complicate a well designed, safe materials product designed in America. I wish we could get back to "MADE in America"!
