Review on 📱 Garmin Remote Edge by Adam Roman

More useful than you think.

I was skeptical at first when this became known. Do you really need a remote control for a device that is normally 15 cm away from your hand? Then I remembered my frustration with my Garmin 810's touchscreen as I drove around trying to scroll through the different screens to get the information I needed. This solves this problem. I installed it on the hood on the inside of the right handlebar where it doesn't interfere with any hand position (drop or hood) I use. The Page button lets me quickly scroll through the three main screens I use (or more if I want). There is a dedicated circle button (do not use) and a start/stop button. The start/stop button, when held down, also activates the backlight, or can be programmed to perform one of about six other actions (show map, show compass, show elevation profile, etc.). The VIRB camera will NOT activate if you have one. You'll need another remote control to do this (your cabin is looking a bit ridiculous at this point). This requires the included CR2032 battery, which is certainly easier to swap out than my PowerTap Hub. One thing to note is that at the start of a ride, even if the remote remains paired with your Garmin Edge, you must press at least once to wake it up. It will return to "sleep mode" after a period of inactivity that I haven't determined yet. Long story short, this remote could have just one button to scroll through the screens and I'd be happy. I don't use the action button to start or stop the device like I do at the beginning and end of a ride - otherwise I have auto pause enabled. It's water resistant to 5ATM, which means it's more waterproof than my Garmin Edge 810 (which is IPX7 certified).
