Nothing beats a good whetstone when it comes to knife sharpening.

There is no comparison between a good whetstone and knife sharpeners sold today. I used to have a military whetstone for sharpening knives, but it was lost when I was moving house many years ago. I've tried several knife sharpeners on the market these days but they didn't do my kitchen knives any good for a very long time so I finally decided to just buy a new sharpening stone. I received this sharpening stone fairly quickly. , and decided to try my most used (and probably overused) all-purpose kitchen knives that I've owned for over a couple of decades. It was suggested that these poor guys should be rotated and invested in new ones, but they were useful and practical for so many years that I just couldn't. they also had a blade on them lol. The first thing I did when I got my whetstone was soak it in water as suggested, then place it in the holder and get to work. The instructions provided are fine, but I have used whetstones in the past and my own instinct got the better of me and I decided it wasn't necessary. A few minutes on the "rough" side to fix nicks and jagged edges, then a final touch on the "fine" side. When I finished, I had knives that hadn't had a good edge for years. By using water instead of oil (my old sharpening stone used oil, but I made do with dish soap) cleaning was easy. A quick rinse and clean and the knives are done. I rinsed the whetstone, laid it on its edge to drain and dry, then put it away for the next run. It's also worth the money and I really missed a good whetstone. They can leave fancy gadgets.
