it was important, the antenna was excellent. Then I realized I couldn't reach the repeater that could see this antenna on the mountain in front of my apartment. At first I was afraid my cell phone would be shot. My HT worked well and I got to a certain level. It was raining so I was a bit suspicious of my antenna after troubleshooting. That's when I discovered, as many other reviews have noted, that the black insulating ring around the antenna above the cable entry point was broken and exposed to the elements. This allowed rain to hit the underside of the antenna, causing a total imbalance in the effective radiated power. I haven't bothered to check the SWR, I know it's bad. The next day as it started to dry it got better and I was able to meet the local VHF repeater up close again. Knowing this I have spent all my money on this device and will refrain from purchasing another from this company. This is bad design. I've only had him four months. I have ordered an antenna from another manufacturer to replace it and will listen more closely to feedback in the future.
