Great source of safe heat for a handful of chicks
As the original owners of the chicks, we used them in our five chick garage brooder. It was springtime in North Carolina, so the temperature in the garage never dropped below 50 degrees. I took a cardboard box, cut a few holes in the doors, turned it over and laid it on the carpet to give the chicks a place to sleep. . When they were big enough for the stall, I put the mat in the stall with them because it was around 40 degrees at night. They grew really well and I didn't have to worry about the fire hazard of lightbulbs.
