Review on Quik Grip Light Truck Traction Chain Rubber Tightener - Set of 2 by Security Chain Company by Ryan Fuhrer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Don't go without them!

They are simple and effective for quickly fitting your snow chain so that it stays where you want it. I even recommend them for cam chains as they eliminate any remaining slack when installed. Just buy an extra pair as a backup for the price now! In terms of fit, they're ideal for full-size pickup truck tires (or SUVs with the same size tires), but probably not for smaller vehicles (compacts and maybe even a mid-size SUV or similar). Regarding installation, I agree with the reviewer "E. Richards" that for the easiest/quickest setup you should set to 4 and 8, then 12, then 10 and 2. Tires, having the correct chain size is very important to choose for your application, both for performance and safety Snow chains can cause significant damage to a vehicle when loosened, not to mention the risk of a sudden loss of traction Can fall off the rubber ring if removed in cold weather. Because the rubber is stretched and stiff, it has a smaller diameter than when installed and can easily slip through the hole. Throw one of those little bugs in the snow and good luck finding them! I lost two on the first shootout (after that I became smarter and was a lot more careful) If you leave the stretchers indoors for a few minutes after removing them, they will quickly return to their original size and be ready for a fresh installation. Update January 4th 2017: The quality of the rubber seems to be deteriorating. While I used to be able to use them for a season, I've found that I'm now "lucky" that they didn't break after being in the truck for a few months. Keep in mind that Fairbanks, Alaska has a few *winter* months, so UV from sunlight shouldn't be a problem. I was willing to shell out about $20 a year for a four-replacement, but doing it multiple times in a season is just unacceptable. I'm buying another set today just to see how they perform but this will be my last if they break prematurely. I'm also reducing my rating to four stars (they might be lower with the next update!).
