There's practically no reason not to use some custom buttons if you're already making your own joycons. While eXtremeRate's own Joycon replacement skin kits come with a set of black buttons as well as your original gray buttons from your existing Joycons, chances are that if you're already switching skins you'll likely need special button colors as well. The colors offered here are basically identical to the body colors offered, and they all come in shades that go well together if you want to mix and match. These buttons have a duller feel than stock joycons, which I would describe as chalk or PEZ candy. In addition, the lettering is engraved, not printed like the OEM buttons. I imagine some would prefer them to offer more grip at the fingertips, but personally I'd like them to look shinier like the originals or maybe the chrome options offered by eXtremeRate. The installation went fine and you will perform this step during a shell switch whether you use custom buttons or not, which is why I say you can use them along with a shell switch as well. Just detach them from the frame (it doesn't matter if the "base" around the bottom of the button peels off or flakes off a little as it won't be visible in the joycons), making sure you line each button properly place place, align with the grooves around the holes and insert.
