Great ROS features! Wi-Fi, not great.

I use it as an edge switch where I also need a closer Wi-Fi connection to a tricky device that refuses to stay connected to my main hotspot. As a RouterOS device, this is great. The quad-core processor is fast, and if you're buying Microtik, you probably already know what a RouterOS gem is once you've gotten it. On the other hand, Wi-Fi is by far the worst 802.11ac hotspot I've ever used. Don't just buy this for its Wi-Fi capabilities. You will be disappointed. Signal strength is good so it doesn't look like I have a defective product. According to research, this is because MicroTik is using modified drivers which they never updated with Wave 2 support, even though this hotspot's hardware supports Wave 2! I don't quite understand the exact reasons why they do this, but performance really suffers. Unfortunately, it also doesn't support newer wireless roaming standards like "r" and "k". This is very bad as ROS CAPsMan would be a fantastic base for a wireless network. On the other hand, there is only one development branch of OpenWRT designed to support this router. They seem to have had some success, but it still can't be merged into the master branch due to bootloader differences on MicroTik devices.
