Another winner from Mikrotik

I wanted to add WiFi to my home setup; I have purchased several Mikrotik products over the years and with one exception they have been excellent. (The only exception was a device that didn't turn on when it arrived.) Mikrotik's hardware seems like the polar opposite of your usual consumer networking hardware. Netgear, Linksys, DLink and all the other old and familiar names never seemed to be more than junk aimed at the bottom end of the market. Many of the parts didn't survive long beforeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • too dumb

Small, powerful, multifunctional.

You won't find a better performing dual-band router in this price range, installation isn't the easiest, but as the complexity increases, more features come. The default quick settings screen will help you get started with ease. If you type Webfig, Winbox or CLI you will see how complex the device can be. The MikroTik app, which is the mobile version of Winbox, is excellent, it simplifies things like setting up port forwarding in a few areas. Replaced Linksys EA7500 with hAP ac2 and couldn't be

Great router, best wireless access point

This little thing has been powering my house for over a year and it's the best price I've ever gotten on a router. The WiFi was strong enough that I could get rid of a poorly placed WiFi repeater despite the lack of external antennas and the unit was extremely reliable, not even needing to be restarted except for the occasional software update. The downside is that these are quite difficult devices to use, although they have a simpler setup interface I wouldn't recommend them for people whoโ€ฆ

Great ROS features! Wi-Fi, not great.

I use it as an edge switch where I also need a closer Wi-Fi connection to a tricky device that refuses to stay connected to my main hotspot. As a RouterOS device, this is great. The quad-core processor is fast, and if you're buying Microtik, you probably already know what a RouterOS gem is once you've gotten it. On the other hand, Wi-Fi is by far the worst 802.11ac hotspot I've ever used. Don't just buy this for its Wi-Fi capabilities. You will be disappointed. Signal strength is good so itโ€ฆ

poor mobile defaults and difficult to set up

I just set up my hotspot and I have to say I'm very disappointed. I wanted a quality access point (no routing) that would receive security updates for years to come. Only time will tell for updates, but the Wi-Fi signal so far is better than my old access point, which I connected to a larger external antenna. The disappointments I had: I'm attaching a case for setting up a simple bridged access point, router configurations only. In the WebFig interface, the Wi-Fi configuration is torn betweenโ€ฆ

  • not sure

Hello, I'll tell you straight away that I'm not new to computers. I programmed my first computer during my senior year of high school and freshman year (I was in both at the same time). I took a computer class in both high school and college. It was 1974. After graduating from college, my first job was as a senior sysadmin for a data center running an IBM/370 (168 and later 4341) running a SEPP VM/370. I contributed to the TCP/IP parts (SMTP, NTP and other smaller sections) through my employer.

  • Build Quality
Cons

About me: I don't consider myself very network savvy. I also acknowledge that there are technical things in this world that are really too hard to use, like setting up legacy sound in Arch Linux. A few years ago, I installed a Wi-Fi bridge in my parents' TV room. I used a pair of dlink ethernet-over-power outlets to connect the ethernet from her wired internet box to the outlet in her TV room, then used the Netgear Nighthawk setup in bridged mode to power my network over wireless transfer andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Makes me angry

When I opened the box and found that the router was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, I had a brief concern that it wouldn't work. I quickly realized that size doesn't matter. I've been searching extensively for a dual-band home router that works well with DD-WRT to replace my roommate's Belkin AC1200 router, which was barely getting a 5GHz signal into my room and also an unbearably slow 2GHz signal. had signal. I looked at TP-Link and some Netgear Nighthawks and $100+ hAP AC beforeโ€ฆ
