Review on 🎨 9x12 Arches Watercolor Pad, Hot Press by Jessica Lewis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I'm still on the fence.

I have LOTS of different cotton paper, a lot! I mainly use a Daniel Smith pipe with a Winsor & Newton Pro pipe. not cotman. on the first page of this work. Again, I have many watercolors. DS, W&N, Schminicke (pan), Holbein, Paul Reubens (really super cheap. I think I got 18 5ml for $8-9. GREAT color for beginners!), ) and some cheap baby colors (1 can, 1 tubing ). So don't think I don't know anything about different colors and what grain, lightfastness, opacity and multi-pigment colors can be. I'll be testing the rest of my awesome ink on this paper in the future, and right now the pro/extra fine (ultramarine) granular ink really stands out for its texture (yes, I know, but it's kinda less offensive to other hot presses) . Paper, Arches Hot Block, and Baohong are both 140-pound blocks. I've seen people rate legendary newspapers like Arches or Fabriano (100%) low based on their experience. Your experience. No problem, I understand. If you can get Canson Paper XL to work, why pay $1 or more for 1 sheet? That is what makes a "real” artist. Make it work! That being said, I think Baohong's hot block is on par with this hot press. I've noticed that with a heat press, unless it's poorly made or not entirely cotton, everything is kind of the same. I have 2 Arches Hot Blocks. Blocks always seem to be better. It's not about blocks, it's just about the pillow. it's also not about 300lbs, just 140lbs (I only used 300lbs in Arches Cold Press, taken from a 10 page pad I tried, so can't comment on the hot 300lbs). I will update e.as now. it's about the same as Baohong.
