Affordable look and feel

Ordered this shoe for my 6 year old as a "winter" play shoe. In summer he usually wears canvas slippers and hiking sandals. I was looking for a durable, closed toe shoe for outdoor play. It didn't match the bill. They are very thin and light (not necessarily bad, but also not suitable for hard outdoor play in cool weather), definitely not waterproof. For example, don't wear them two days after it has rained. Worst of all, the floors were crushed under the force of the nail. I would not wear these shoes outdoors at all as it feels like a rock or stick could go right through them. We were kind of lucky that they were also too small and had to be sent back. I don't think they are very small. He was in 13 all summer and I ordered 1. He could barely put his foot in the shoe, which is really, really tight. Tightness was definitely an issue, but it measured closer to 2 at a general store.
