I always use sock filters. I go back and forth between cleaning and throwing away without cleaning because it's so annoying. I've given out hundreds (maybe thousands) of socks over the years. Lately I've been using mesh filters instead of felt filters because I'm so tired of cleaning. Reef diapers are amazing. It's basically a special coffee filter for my reef. My aquarium creates a lot of debris (it's huge and I overfeed it). Felt filters are good for 2-3 days... these are for 3-4 days. Then I can just throw it away and put a new one in. No cleaning. They also swell when filled with detritus (similar to a full baby diaper. ;). ). The only thing they could do better would be if they were cheaper (because let's be honest...it's just a special coffee filter).
