Zoom means the monocular can increase the range from say 10x to 40x. This allows you to increase the field of view to find something and then "zoom in" to a narrower field at low and high magnification. This is a fixed magnification monocular that does NOT magnify. This is comparable to a 20x fixed zoom. In addition, the strap loop has come loose at the top, which could have caused it to fall off. i give it back
