Review on Unleash The Power Of Mythology With Gamewright'S Zeus On The Loose Card Game by Calvin Booker

Math game that everyone likes?!? Yes!

Our whole family loves this game. Myself and my 11 year-old son, my 23 yr old sister, my parents, we all love playing this. There is math involved and strategy as well but most of all it is fun. You also get a little intro into some Greek gods and goddesses. Each card is numbered and you have a hand of several cards. As you play a card, you need to add the value of your card to the pile. It is mostly addition but there is also some subtraction. Not too hard but you have to be able to keep track of the total number in the pile so you know what it will be when you add your card. Play continues until the pile totals 100. Of course there are also tricky cards. One of my favorites is Hermes who flips the value of the pile. If the pile is at 59, it suddenly comes 95. Then someone could play a card that brings it back down to 50.I think it would be good for math teachers to use as well. I teach social studies and although I have SS games, I also brought this in for our tutorial (study hall). The middle schoolers loved it.It is cheap enough that if you don't LOVE it, you haven't spent a ton. But I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't liked it!

Pros
  • My grandchildren love playing this game. They are ages 6 and 8.
Cons
  • Not suitable for solo players

With help my 4 and 5 year old play this with my 8 year old and myself. All enjoy it. My 4 year old is learning his numbers, and the other two adding and subtracting. They love stealing Zeus and winning. Games are short enough to give others chance to win. Some strategy involved, but anyone can win.
