Fake FT232 Alert for Windows Users!

Two of my USB xbee adapters stopped working after a Windows 7 update in early October. Literally a few hours later while trying to get it to work I came across the answer online. The genuine manufacturer of FT232 chips (FTDI chips) has released a Windows update driver that does not work with fake chips in the market. The new driver does not block them, as mentioned in the previous test, but simply makes it impossible for Windows to communicate with them. Apparently both of my Sainsmart USB adapters have counterfeit chips. There is a not too difficult solution if you find the old drivers (I'm back to 2.10) and tell Windows which ones to use. After following the instructions to set up the video, they're back to work happily, but I REALLY regret I didn't waste 5 hours of my life on this! If you are a Windows user I would recommend using a reputable brand for this application unless you are very computer and Google savvy. Update: I can't get the same board to work on a second Windows 7 machine. I do not recommend buying this product or any other product with an FTDI chip. It's a good product, but FTDI doesn't allow counterfeit chips on their drives, so they pretty much ruined this product for me. I would like to give FTDI 0 stars.
