Review on πŸ“€ Panasonic RV30 DVD Player by Dan Worku

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best DVD player in its class!

I've had a DVD-ROM drive since it was first introduced three years ago. I thought DVD-ROM was the standard medium by now, but apparently I was wrong. The picture is very poor and the movies on the player look like a slide show! So I decided to get a DVD player. I've been looking for a suitable player for several months. I researched models from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba and Pioneer. I wanted to buy a player for around $250 that only played one disc (I don't need a multi-disc model) and had great picture and sound quality. Also, I didn't need a player with a built-in Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. My receiver could. After research and research I became interested in Sony DVP-S360, Pioneer DV-333 and Panasonic DVD-RV30 players. All three players are good, but people complain that Sony's "PrecisionDrive" is very loud, especially in quiet movie scenes, which can be a bit distracting. Additionally, many reviewers said the Sony produced a nice but "soft" picture, rather than the sharp DVD-like picture. Many reviewers complained that the Pioneer DV-333 was not very well built and also produced a washed-out picture. Everyone seemed to like the Panasonic DVD-RV30 DVD player. They all said that it produces a very crisp, clear and bright picture that rivals $1,000+ DVD players and that it produces great sound. Since Panasonic also offers a $50 shipping discount, I chose the Panasonic DVD-RV30. Installation took five minutes. I took the player out of the box, plugged in the power cable, plugged in the TV cable (only composite cables come with the player) and put the batteries in the remote control. That's all! This player has many features including: Virtual Surround Sound (VSS): Uses your stereo speakers or your TV speakers to create audio delays that replicate the surround sound experience. This is personally one of my favorite features of the player. I thought it was a trick that doesn't work, but it works really well! I'm amazed at the sound playing with VSS enabled! Dialogue Enhancer: The Dialogue Enhancer aims to boost the center channel of your home theater system by 6dB to make dialogue clearer. Even on a traditional TV system, Dialogue Enhancer definitely improves those DVDs where dialogue is so difficult to hear. I usually leave the dialogue enhancer on at all times. Also, I can turn down the volume at night and still understand what people are talking about. So I won't wake my family! :-) Digital Cinema Mode: Designed to enhance picture details in dark scenes. Personally, I haven't used this feature yet. There is also a direct bass output. You can connect your turntable directly to a subwoofer to enjoy the same bass effects you normally only get from a home theater system. Other features include a component video output, an S-video output and an optical audio output for Dolby Digital and TTP. I am currently testing this player with composite cables only and the picture on the composite cables is incredibly clear! You'll feel like you're in a movie using component video cables, but your TV needs to support it. Check your TV's user guide to see if it supports component video, S-video, or composite cables. The remote control is very intuitive and easy to use. All functions that the player is capable of are conveniently accessible via the remote control. My only complaint is that you can't select a chapter with a single click. This would be a great feature, but it's not necessary. I like the resume play feature this player has. If you decide to take a business break in the middle of a movie, even if you turn the player off and on again, the player "remembers" where you were in the movie and gets you there instantly! the reviews I read. Sound quality and picture quality are top notch! Details are very sharp and easy to see, and action scenes are like a walk in the park for this player. I threw all sorts of movies on my player and none of the scenes seemed too tiring at all. Even the shift changes are very smooth. I haven't even noticed a single reference to a level shift in the movies I've watched. Finally, after about four hours of movie playback, the player did not warm up at all. The DVD in the player didn't even get hot. Everything about this player feels very durable and will last a lifetime. All in all, this player literally has to be one of the best players out there right now.
