It turned out that cleaning the printhead was easier and cheaper than replacing it!

We have an old Zebra label printer that a customer gave us as a gift many years ago and we decided to use it to print our shipping labels. Unfortunately, the printer didn't print very dark or sharp images, so we figured we'd either have to try replacing the printhead or buy a new printer. After doing a little research I realized that the problem could be that the head needs cleaning, which is why we bought these cleaning pens. WOW! What different cleaning did. The printer now prints dark and sharp. We are very happy that the printer is working again after cleaning.
