Review on Garmin Navigator Detailed China MicroSD by William Stewart

Completely useless card. Do not buy.

This map is totally useless for locating you in China, so probably buy it. It can be from a quarter to a full mile. On my return from China I had a lengthy email exchange with Garmin regarding this matter. Apparently the Chinese government is requesting a "shift" in the mapping program that takes this location into account. Garmin's answer on how to fix this was convoluted and convoluted, requiring complex programming (creating new waypoints, extracting a map, remapping, etc.) that could only be done in China. Oh, and you should completely update your Garmin operating system (I'm sure we all do this every weekend). None of these complex fixes are documented on the Garmin website. The most frustrating thing is that I asked Garmin if my device (Nuvi 370) was compatible before I bought the map and they said it was indeed compatible. Garmin support now says it's not compatible. Possibly, since I would be surprised if the map works with every Garmin device at all. Another example of how GPS mapping is still a new technology hampered by global politics and inept marketing. Maybe one day there will be a company that realizes that people just USE a GPS navigator, don't want to program it, fight tech support, and pay $100 for useless maps.
