Not very useful as a GPS for China

I bought this with a Garmin GPS (and found I paid significantly more than if I had gone to WalMart). Brought a GPS navigator and SD card to China and found the combination almost useless. In Shanghai, it was not possible to detect it with an accuracy of 0.5-1.0 km. Outside of Shanghai, when driving, it usually showed the GPS position about 100 meters from the road. Would happily pay more for an accurate map to use in the US from Garmin as none of the local GPS units offer English street names…

DO NOT WORK in China - always 200-400 meters away

I have just returned from a 2 week stay in Beijing and Xi'an. This card just doesn't work exactly in China. It's always between 200 and 400 meters, so it's completely useless for directions and basically useless for getting to where you want to be, even if you're using direct (non-driving) navigation. Everything works fine, but your route and position on the map is always far from the road you are on. To show this I've included an image of our route to the Great Wall of China which is displayed

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

Completely useless card. Do not buy.

This map is totally useless for locating you in China, so probably buy it. It can be from a quarter to a full mile. On my return from China I had a lengthy email exchange with Garmin regarding this matter. Apparently the Chinese government is requesting a "shift" in the mapping program that takes this location into account. Garmin's answer on how to fix this was convoluted and convoluted, requiring complex programming (creating new waypoints, extracting a map, remapping, etc.) that could only…

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • No car
