I used to try to save money and use homemade dust covers from old Tupperware cookware. Big mistake. They didn't fit, broke and dusted the whole room. It seemed a bit pricey, but it's easily worth twice the price. The durability is excellent and it easily presses against the ceiling while keeping all the dust out. I've used it on drywall and even old metal mesh plaster and the results have been excellent in all cases. In fact, it works so well that at my last job I didn't even clear the furniture out of the room before cutting the holes. Worked great.
