First Learning Experience

This work for 8 of the 12 holes before the center ring separates the plastic from the bowl. If I thought I would add some grease or oil to the ring that the drill chuck goes in. I finished the project by adding a large washer inside and out and then knocked it apart when I was done. Worked well until it broke. I will buy it again and add lube.

Works as advertised. A good product.

Purchased January 2020 Clear plastic case allows user to align drill bit for proper hole placement. The ring on my dust bowl is red. I made a modification to the red plastic ring by gluing a metal disc onto the red plastic ring. I then apply a little light oil to the metal disc before use. Worked great. Use it to cut holes in the ceiling for electrical work. There is practically no dust outside the bowl. The addition of a metal disk was suggested by another reviewer. I recommend this…

Just what you need for recessed lighting

I used to try to save money and use homemade dust covers from old Tupperware cookware. Big mistake. They didn't fit, broke and dusted the whole room. It seemed a bit pricey, but it's easily worth twice the price. The durability is excellent and it easily presses against the ceiling while keeping all the dust out. I've used it on drywall and even old metal mesh plaster and the results have been excellent in all cases. In fact, it works so well that at my last job I didn't even clear the…

I don't want to do without it.

As a contractor I have installed many new LED lights. Without such a device, you create a huge amount of dust and debris that needs to be cleaned, but with this thing, all the debris and dust is collected in the cup, and the cleaning is very small. I will tell you two things; The first is the fact that the inside gets dusty and it's hard to tell where you want to drill the hole, so you have to drag the edge down to see where the starting point is. Second, you want to make sure you apply…

Dust holds up very well. Wish the product was more transparent

Although the picture is blue, the actual product is clear. I wouldn't say clear as glass, but a little cloudy when new. After you've drilled your first drywall hole, expect the transparency to decrease slightly due to scratches, stains, etc. caused by dust and cleaning. This reduction in transparency makes it slightly more difficult to align the drill/bit with the cut mark. I solved this problem by first drilling a pilot hole the same diameter as the pilot bit on my hole saw and then using that

Worth every penny Suitable for hole saws and accessories

Just drilled 8 perfect holes for ceiling lights. It took 15 minutes. After that, there was no more drywall dust on me or on the floor, and after washing, the bowl looks like new (see photo). After each cut, I emptied the bowl and, following the advice of another reviewer, sprayed silicone grease on both sides of the gasket that attaches to the hole saw's drive shaft. The bowl was perfectly stable during the cut and bent up slightly as the saw cut through the drywall. In my opinion regular…

It worked great until it broke!

I purchased this to use with a 6" hole saw to install recessed ceiling lights. I had 10 lamps to install and when I used the Disston Dust Bowl to cut the first hole I was amazed at the amount of dust collected. It worked really well cutting 9 holes and capturing probably 90% of the dust. Unfortunately the Dust Bowl collapsed on the 10th hole and threw dust all over the course! It turns out that this tool has a serious design flaw. The tool is stationary and close to the ceiling to trap dust…

Almost perfect for power tools and hand tools

I needed to install 12 clips in boxes on a plasterboard ceiling. I know that every drywall cut at the top creates a huge mess, you have to cover everything which adds time and money to the job. I bought this after reading so many good reviews and it's worth its weight in gold. As others have mentioned, after 1 or 2 holes when you need to look through the bowl to hit the target you will need to wipe or rinse it with a damp cloth. And as mentioned, using a washer between the drill and the bowl…

Make sliced bread a bang for your buck!

I don't often write reviews but when I'm blown away by a product's performance I feel like it's the one and only. So it is clear in its transparency. Turns out it doesn't really matter. It also has a rubbery texture and flexibility. Basically it's a thick silicone shell with a hole and a plastic sleeve at the bottom. I used it with a 6.1" (155mm) hole saw for ductless LED lights. I drilled 28 holes with it and it worked perfectly. My ceiling was painted and lightly soiled 5/8 inch drywall in my
