These are my favorite mats. We have wood floors and have used cheaper "waffle" pads in the past. They left a drawing on the floor in our previous house and I couldn't wipe it off. Not wanting to risk renovating the floors in our new house, I bought them for all of our carpets. They really work. Some rugs were thinner (bought for the design, not the pile) and this pillow gave them a very soft and luxurious feel. Be careful, they are very difficult to cut. You'll need GOOD scissors (as well as a magic marker and ruler to mark your lines) to trim to size, but it can be done. I have these scissors under large rugs but I have used them under skids and smaller rugs. In my experience they held smaller mats with little to no movement. They are definitely worth the extra money.
