This is a traditional line laser barcode reader very similar to the Symbol devices I bought over 20 years ago. This device is very inexpensive, at least 10 times cheaper (not adjusted for inflation). The configuration settings are also similar, using specific barcodes in the manual. For some, the lack of 2D capabilities can be a downside. The quality and construction appear to be good but only time will tell. The ancient Symbol units were tanks and suffered abuse, including having the cord pulled and treating the unit like a yo-yo. I had no problem reading barcodes on receipts from 2" to 15". This reader is connected and configured as a second keyboard.
