This is a traditional line laser barcode reader very similar to the Symbol devices I bought over 20 years ago. This device is very inexpensive, at least 10 times cheaper (not adjusted for inflation). The configuration settings are also similar, using specific barcodes in the manual. For some, the lack of 2D capabilities can be a downside. TLDR: Works the way you need it. Before the purchase, I was the one who asked myself the question "How do small/fine barcodes read?" I have a product with codes that are about 1-1.5" long and 1/4" high" and now I can say that it actually scans those barcodes with no problems.
