Review on IGaging Electronic THICKNESS MICROMETER Fractions by Carlos Alston

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Detail view well suited for testing, measuring and checking

I can't believe I waited so long to buy something like this. I regularly work with a laser cutter and awkwardly measure the thickness of the material with calipers. This instrument measures thickness much faster. This allows me to get to the very edge, which is especially useful when I want to check the thickness of the rubber, which can vary. It's nice to be able to easily pull pieces of material out of the stack and measure them with great accuracy without pulling them out all the way just to measure their thickness. This tool feels like quality metal (rather than cheap plastic) in your hand, but at the same time it doesn't feel like it could withstand even a brief fall. During the measurement you have to move it a bit to align it so that it gets the correct (lowest) value. If you place opposite finger bases for better measurement, the angle of the material doesn't line up with the body, temples, or anything else I can see. It's also fairly easy and quick to get readings within +/- 0.1mm (0.004 inch) once you get the hang of it. , .0005") are possible. Hardened fingertips are interchangeable - I don't know where to get replacements. They're also polished very smooth, so you can slide over a piece of rubber, for example, to find thick and thin spots like me assume you don't want to slip a finger hump on the surface of a transparent or glossy material, as the hardness of the finger hump can damage the surface.

Pros
  • Super hard carbide tips.
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
