Each light needs 3 AAA batteries. The resulting lights are very bright, brightly colored and very pretty. Originally, though, I couldn't get the remote controls to work.About to take them to my watch battery guy, I realized there was a small piece of plastic inserted in the front of each remote. Pulled out the plastic, and voila!--colored lights that change colors, fade, or flash.I bought these for the occasional bath, so I won't be expecting them to last a long, long time of underwater use. But it's an inexpensive way to put a party in your bath!
