It seems that all drives in these older Sony systems will fail sooner or later. Luckily, you can still purchase and install the parts yourself if needed. The item in question, a disc for the newer PS3 2nd Gen 25XXB "Slim", works fine but installation was a bummer! It's actually no easier to install than old Slims or Veils just because of that damn lens cable! You literally have to take the drive apart and take that crap out, pop it into a slot on the console, and then thread it back through the drive when you mount it. This really defeats the whole purpose of not having to switch boards like the old Slims etc. But I digress. Sony or any other company probably always wanted to treat us like an "import car" in terms of design, so we have to send it to their stupid service center! I think that's what happens when you silently kill a whole bunch of devices, forcing consumers to jump through hoops just to keep enjoying it when they want to, which is the REAL tragedy of it all! PS3>PS4, always period!
