Sony Blu-Ray DVD Drive KEM-450DAA: Perfect Replacement for PS3 Slim CECH-25XX & CECH-30XX Consoles (160GB & 320GB) Review

I turned on my PS3 last week after not using it for a year because I have yet to finish the games. To my horror, the Blu-ray player no longer reads discs. However, there is a happy ending! This replacement drive worked great! I was able to find a video on the internet and install it myself without much trouble, except for the 'security screws' on the PS3 which can be bypassed with a small flat head instead of buying a special screwdriver.

It seems that all drives in these older Sony systems will fail sooner or later. Luckily, you can still purchase and install the parts yourself if needed. The item in question, a disc for the newer PS3 2nd Gen 25XXB "Slim", works fine but installation was a bummer! It's actually no easier to install than old Slims or Veils just because of that damn lens cable! You literally have to take the drive apart and take that crap out, pop it into a slot on the console, and then thread it back through the

I was devastated when my PS3 Slim stopped reading discs, I cleaned it, took it apart and put it back together. I did everything I could think of before purchasing this item. After purchasing it, I was concerned about all the bad reviews I read. My package arrived today and I installed the disc straight away. IT WORKS GREAT! Obviously this is my first run and I don't know if it will work but for now? I'm over the moon and hoping for another decade from this villain!

The drive looked fine before installation and went in with no problems. However, when I tried to eject the disc, it wouldn't eject. When I removed the metal cover from the drive, I saw that two small screws holding the front edge of the drive together were missing. I was able to use two of the five screws holding the metal cover in place to secure the front edge. I converted my PS3 and now the disc ejects!
