Review on 🔧 Tandy Leather Snap All Setter 8108 10: The Ultimate Tool for Snapping Leather by Jennifer Roberts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what I need, good quality tool kit

1-23-18I'm looking at the #8108 Tandy Leather Snap tool kit. I had to buy it to install the #1263-03 Tandy latches I bought that I was unaware of beforehand. This tool worked great. It's a solid set of tools that I think I know what it's like to be a tech/mechanic and jill of all trades. In this situation I used a press to use the tool. I felt like I had more control over the install. I think this set is made to be used with a hammer and a hard surface. I finished them with the surface of a concrete slab just to make sure the rivets in the snaps were fully seated. everything is just the opposite. Judging by my magnet and the color of the metal, I actually think it's steel. Pins are also solid. Another thing I like is that the set fits more than one cap size. In my case I used it on 5/16" or #24 Tandy Snaps (hole size 5/32"). for my use on Carhart Arctic bibs/overalls. My Dickie bibs have buttons at the bottom to keep the cuffs from dragging on the floor. My recently purchased Carharts have already started to wear out prematurely. These bars were perfect in size, strength and color. In my application I added some glue on the back of the bars. Why? My appliqué was fabric, not leather. Fabric tends to fray unless secured with a backstitch, burnt/melted (depending on the fabric e.g. Nylon) or more simply with glue. The tool kit installs Tandy sizes #16, 20, and 24 along with glove latches. "I've posted photos of the toolbox, the snapshots used and the main application I used it for. Please note that the buttons I put on the bibs are not for cosmetic purposes, strictly for working on the work gear. So smeared glue doesn't bother me. I have used bibs since installing the latches. Everything works well, the buttons hold tight, won't come loose. If I use the buttons for something else I'll update them. I'm sure there's always something. I bought this from seller "BIGFLY" but did Revain which I feel is important to list this information. I have met sellers with different products including fakes even if they are listed under the same brand. I will post an update with a durability rating. No. 24 Gunmetal Black Snaps were bought at the leather goods store but made by Revain. ***UPDATE*** 3-8-20 Several times I've used this tool kit. Still works pretty well and had virtually no issues with it. The only problem I've had is when I tap on a locking rivet with a tool, the rivet gets squeezed out of the way and doesn't roll down like it should. I think it's because the drum is hit too hard or off center. I find the best way to use the tool is to tap it gently first until you get the initial "roll". then you can achieve more power. Also, if possible, hold the stamping portion of the tool very close to the base while pressing on the second part of the latch. The first part is the rivet, the second is the latch or receiver, to hopefully clarify the last sentence. It just helps get a nice snug fit on the material, IMO. Here I have pictures of the latest project. I needed to make a protective case for my oscilloscope that I use in the automotive industry. I wanted to be able to hang this tool on the hood and use it in the engine bay. This keeps it from sliding off the portable table I use and protects the scope from drops or light moisture. I used a leather-like material that's semi-waterproof, washable, and somewhat pleasing to the eye. I also lined the bag with batting to provide padding and some padding. In total I installed 3 buttons on this case. 2 to mount my scope in my bag so the stuff fits snugly into the BNC connectors and 1 for the loop I added to hook the hood latches or similar. I fitted the latch into the loop, melted the strap a bit where the rivet is sticking out before pressing the rivet. This should help prevent the strap from fraying around the snap receiver to prolong the life of both parts. Check out the images I've included in the update for a visualization and better understanding of what I've outlined above.
