Compression gauges and connectors will work, but if the job requires access to very hard-to-reach places, don't use an adapter. Luckily I used it on the bike because I screwed the adapter onto the hose, screwed it into the spark plug hole and checked the compression. The pressure gauge worked great until you unscrew the hose and the adapter stays in the hole. No matter what I did the thing wouldn't come out, I could poke the tip of the needle, grab the adapter and unscrew it. If I were working on a car engine or anything I couldn't put pliers in, I don't know what I would do. Beware!
