The alarm is always triggered whether it is activated or not. Simply lifting the lock will trigger the alarm. It hurts my ears and drives my dogs crazy. I bought this for my 2013 Ninja 300 and it fits comfortably on the front and rear brake discs. The yellow on the lock is very bright and easy to see, so I'm not worried about accidentally leaving it on.
