Yes it's a rear derailleur, not a brake but nothing rhymes with a rear derailleur. I love Wake, especially now that there aren't enough Shimano on the market anymore. I'm not using my 48T flywheel at the moment but plan to when I go to the mountains. For this reason I bought this derailleur in the extended 50T version. If you're planning to upgrade or aren't sure which flywheel to use but want to keep your options open, spend the extra $4 and get 50T. It includes a red tail hook extension that you don't need to install until you grow up. It took a while to adapt it to my Shimano 7 speed flywheel. This is the standard Schwinn setup and is quite common on geared bikes. What worked for me was adjusting the upper limit screw on the lowest gear to balance it, then snapping into gear 5 and adjusting the cable adjustment knob to balance it. Then set a lower limit for the largest transfer. I've been using it for almost two weeks and it works fine. I ride it daily on gravel, sand, roads and sidewalks. The biggest drop I experience is about 5 inches when the sidewalks hit me. I had no cracks or drops in the chain.
