good. Yes, these pens smell when you first open them, but once opened a little it dissipates. These pens are really good. I've learned (because all pencils have a learning curve) that if you're easy on them, they'll be your friends. They mix well and layer too. But you have to work with a LIGHT HAND! They are so beautiful once you get the hang of them. WHAT OFFER! $37 for 150 pencils and they're good! Edit: I've had these pens for a while now and have been testing them in my steps. I have to say, these are AMAZING smoothest, most transitional pens I've ever used! There are no start/stop marks so I didn't have to use a pencil blender to smooth them out. They go together elegantly and take so much work. I have never used a slicker pen for fading and I use Caran Dache Luminance. My search for coloring is over forever. I would say the same about painting if it weren't for the issue of lightfastness. I'm in love!
