I purchased this after my Kohler bath stopper stopped working after only 2 years of limited use (we shower more often than we bathe). After receiving the goods, I unscrewed the old cartridge unit and screwed the new one onto the old chrome cap. I then screwed the entire assembly into the tub and started filling the tub with water. I pressed the stopper and. THAT DOES NOT WORK. After unscrewing the cartridge from the cap, I noticed that when it was screwed onto the cap, the plunger in the cartridge was extended too far to grip. In other words, the cartridge works, but without the cap. (and the cap is needed along with the washer provided to prevent water from leaking out of the tank) SOLUTION: I used an old rubber washer AND a new one to prevent the piston from hitting the bottom in the cartridge. chrome lid. Although this solves the problem, Kohler intended to use this product differently than intended. I plan to contact Kohler Customer Service and ask about this issue.
