Purchased for MarineLand 3g Contour Tank. I put it in water for the first time yesterday and let it sit for about 6 hours. When I got home the temperature was 84.7 degrees. I immediately put a fan in the direction of the tank to cool the temperature. Once the temperature dropped to 83.4, the heater turned on and began heating the tank again. You don't want your tank running that hot! This means it is suitable for tanks up to 5 gallons. I think it's for a 5 gallon tank or more. Buying a 5 gallon tank or larger can overload the heater. It's not safe. Make sure you monitor the temperature in your tank before using it in livestock, or put it in a small 2-5 gallon bowl to see what temperature stays.
