I purchased this unit to replace a security camera that was running in my home security system and failed. The picture quality isn't the best but you can see it's great for what I want to use it for! This camera runs 24/7 and I've read reviews that this camera gets hot all the time. I plugged mine into a 5 volt outlet inside and it works great on 5 volts! I originally intended to power this camera with a lower power supply to avoid overheating and it works great at 5 volts! I would say you can use a 7-9 volt power supply and it works fine. I would like to add that the camera replaced when the regular micro turned off just because it was on all the time and 12A volts also plenty for continuous use. ! 5 volts works fine and I checked the image quality at 5-12 volts and there was no quality difference other than the camera was cool at 5 volts and warm at 12 volts so that's your decision! I needed a camera that is not a night vision camera with light because it goes through window glass and the IR completely washes out the image by reflecting infrared light, I know the packaging and description says the IR light is built in , but not on this camera! There's no room for a bunch of infrared LEDs on this little thing! For the money spent, they're pretty much disposable anyway. I converted my old backup camera to a security camera for a year so I really expect this camera to last longer as it runs at a lower voltage! Hope this helps and I don't get a chance to see the caulk since it's installed inside! Give it a try, for under $20 you can't go wrong! As you can see in the last pics it's not great for grabbing license plates but in the last pic you can see the walkway to the front door, you just clearly see FedEx delivering the package to the door!
