Unreliable aquarium thermometers

I have bought several of these over the past few years. Probably 6-7 total. What I found is that the quality of them is really spotty. The first batch of four I bought worked great (I have them on four separate tanks). After a few years, some of them started reading 4-5 degrees lower. It's huge. I suspected the batteries might fail, but since they are so cheap, instead of replacing the batteries, I decided to replace the blocks. I was expecting the thermometer to stop working when the battery died instead of showing the wrong temperature, but figured I'd replace it anyway. Pluggable blocks are also disabled. For testing, I connected two thermometers to the same tank at the same time and got 4-5º fluctuations. Not only that, I walked into a room the other day and my tank read 5º higher than usual. I almost panicked. I recently replaced the heater and was wondering if it was broken, but then I saw the thermometer right in front of my eyes begin to drop, much faster than the water temp could change. As I sit here writing this review, I have started reading normally again. I have no idea why he wobbled like that. The water temperature has not changed and the heater works normally. If you have a good one, they're good and cheap. They are easy to read. The battery lasts forever. The problem is that you can't rely on it. I think the chopsticks on the strips are more accurate, so I'll probably replace my digital thermometers with them.
