Review on Red TESmart 2 Port 4K@60Hz Ultra HD HDMI KVM Switch with 2x1, Keyboard & Mouse Pass Through, USB 2.0 Device Support, and 5ft KVM Cables by Ali Lariosa

Unit #1: Keyboard and mouse switched fine, but there was a problem with the video output (no HDMI output on my display, even though everything was connected properly and all cables worked). So I ordered a replacement. Block #2: Everything was going fine, mouse, keyboard and screen were fine...until I plugged my headphones into the headphone jack: only the left audio worked :( To isolate the problem, I still had Block #1, so I have all video connected The output still didn't work but I got good 2ch audio So I ended up with 2 faulty devices in a row, well, difference I no longer reach for the back of my computer to connect cables This is both for convenience as well as important for performance, and to reduce the risk of breaking something If you do get a KVM, make sure it supports the maximum audio, video, and data bandwidth you need: 4K60 capability is important all are USB 2.0 connected to the target machine The lack of USB 3.0 doesn't bother me but the faster speeds could be useful for offline transfers or some kind of high end webcam Hint ergrund - You can use the 3rd USB port for a USB microphone. The video output is powered via HDMI, but the unit only comes with 2 HDMI cables so you will need to use the cable that came with your display device. The Switch also includes a remote control but no battery. So have a CR2025 handy if you want to use this feature. The remote control has "M” and "P” buttons for selecting modes and keyboard pass function, as well as 1, 2, 3, 4 number buttons for selecting 4 PCs that can be connected to the TESmart top model (only 1 or 2 works for this model) The device has 6 lights around the yellow selection button. 2 to tell you if the KVM is connected to your 2 computers, 2 to indicate which computer is currently active, a yellow button to select the active computer, an IR receiver and a mode indicator. Switching takes about 3 seconds. You can switch modes from the default manual toggle mode by pressing the hotkey combination on your keyboard. An interesting mode is the ability to switch computers automatically when your mouse is on the edge of the screen for a second. Other modes include switching computers every n seconds (you specify 0-250), switching buzzer sound, and passthrough mode for using special keys that KVM may not recognize. All 5 buttons work on my 5 button mouse. Conclusion: KVM switches are very user-friendly and can even reduce risk, but this particular brand seems to suffer from quality issues. I would look for evidence that they fixed their quality issues before purchasing.
