Surprisingly Good: Binoculars and scope

My lab bought this to help with zebrafish and artificial heart valve research. I assumed it would be very cheap considering it's only around $150, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it is. If this is going to be used as a home school item or a gift for a child, it's great. It has a few frustrating downsides in the lab, but it can still be extremely useful. Advantages: - Materials of excellent quality. It feels like it was made to last. - Lens can be switched from 2X to 4X, which is much more convenient than having a fixed lens and doubling the number of eyepieces. and an interchangeable spacer (one opaque, one frosted). . Ideal for use with 10x eyepieces (20x and 40x total magnification). I didn't even need to use the 20x eyepieces because the 10x eyepieces fit everything I do. If you're doing a typical autopsy (or in my case, dechorionizing zebrafish embryos), then 80x magnification is serious overkill. at the perfect distance/angle to see the full field of view. However, the detail is still there. For the price, the picture is surprisingly clear. My frustration here stems almost entirely from the brightness of the optics, not that the optics are distorted or blurry. - The lack of a light dimmer is a pretty big downside. When the frosted glass gets wet, the pane becomes transparent and the light dazzles. It would be nice if you could turn it off. - No camera mount (unless you attach it through the eyepiece slot). Conclusion: Recommended
