My picky 22 year old cockatiel loved this perch after finally getting close enough to try it after three weeks in his cage. I only bought it because I wanted it to have something flat to stand on. He loves to chew on its edges from time to time. I'm a bit afraid he'll swallow the material because it looks like wood, so I keep an eye on him. The upper is also the rougher stuff, which should help keep nails trimmed, but I'd prefer it to be smoother so I don't have to worry about it scratching the underside of his legs. My bird pooped on the exposed sides and I was able to scrub it off with soap/water and a couple of times I did it didn't swell. on a scale. Please look at my cockatiel in the attached picture and note that it is a bit small for cockatiels. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, but as with any toy, keep an eye on your bird to avoid a choking hazard.
