HDMI doesn't work well in hubs

USB and power supply work, but HDMI gives me a pink overlay on the external display for a few seconds, then the display goes black. The laptop still sees the display but doesn't show anything. Rebooting or reconnecting didn't help. Since the support site was down, I returned it the next day.
