This remote works like a TV remote via IR so I don't have to worry about Bluetooth pairing. IR reflects off surfaces well, and at first I left the sensor on the floor and grabbed the remote to play/pause each time, but I've since perfected this to make it smooth. I placed the sensor in the corner gusset of the passenger seat and then I attached the Velcro remote to the right wall of my vertically oriented center island. I also added velcro to the plastic next to the play/pause button (not on the button itself, which is rubbery and easily detaches from the stick) so I can just grab it when I want to play a pause. Remote control, use the Velcro to feel where the play/pause button is and press the button without even lifting or looking at the remote control. The upward facing remote is very stable and the IR bounces off the ceiling back to the sensor. I really like this remote control for my car because it is very compact and uses IR; the only one on amazon i could find with both properties. The buttons definitely feel great and work just as fast as any other mouse or keyboard. The device shows up in Device Manager as an HID-compatible mouse and keyboard, so no driver is really needed. The remote sends IR signals to the included USB receiver that extends about 2 feet, and the receiver appears as a Windows mouse. All button controls work fine, tested on Windows 10 1903 and 2004. Mouse pad only works in 8 directions and lags a bit on screen but works when you need to use it. A problem I noticed in a few months when I happened to be that the laptop very rarely processed some commands from the remote until I restarted the computer. This has only happened twice in three months of daily use, so I still find this device very stable and responsive. This appears to be more of a Spotify or Windows issue than the remote itself, so it's probably a rare issue with any other IR remote where the laptop itself stays closed when used for sound. I also wanted the remote to work for waking from sleep, but it seems that on my laptop, Windows doesn't recognize the device as it sleeps, so I couldn't get it to work. I've tried disabling powered off devices and enabling "Allow wakes" for USB hubs and the remote control itself in Windows Device Manager and Power Options to no avail. You probably need a computer with a BIOS that allows you to manually enable Wake on USB. This is strange as my wireless Logitech M570 can wake up windows but not this remote so I'm not sure what's going on. The instructions for setting up programmable keys are confusing, but they basically mean you can use them in Windows programs. which allow you to assign buttons like VLC or OBS, so you can setup the A button to start recording like in a recording program. Overall, this remote is exactly what I wanted it to be. It works exactly as you would expect, except that it cannot wake Windows from sleep mode on some computers without the USB BIOS option.
